Questions we hear (and a few we wish we did)

Ask us a question

Is EMCc a SCADA system?

Yes, and no. EMCc does everything you'd expect from an advanced SCADA system: it reads telemetry, sends commands, trends history and sets alarms. The difference is the approach. Instead of one serial ladder scan, EMCc runs its logic massively in parallel, with a thread per device, so one slow or failed device can't hold up the rest.

How is EMCc licensed?

There's no per-tag or per-client licensing, no development environment to license and no seat cost. Capacity is sized by hardware, not by license. Talk to us about pricing for your site.

What hardware does it run on?

Three form factors with the same software: EMCc Core, a compact headless server (DIN or shelf); EMCc Touch, Core with a 7–10" industrial touchscreen; and EMCc Pro, a cabinet with a 15" HMI, managed PoE switch, DIN power and UPS ride-through. Core handles 100+ field devices and Pro 250+.

Which devices and protocols does it support?

MODBUS RTU and TCP, CANBUS, SNMP v1, JSON, XML, ASCII and MQTT, plus EMCmbus, which makes EMCc a MODBUS server for external SCADA and programs. A growing library of device Presets brings common hardware online in a few steps.

What if my device isn't supported yet?

Discover it. The Discovery tools probe a live device, read a pasted JSON or XML sample, or import the manufacturer's CSV map, and turn it into a new Preset. For exotic or proprietary devices there's EMCradio's Python interface, and the Protocol Builder (beta) for protocols we don't ship.

Do I need a programmer or an integrator?

No. EMCc is configured, not programmed. Devices, dashboards, alarms and control logic are all set up in the browser. Formulas can be written as readable text or built as a flowchart.

Does EMCc replace my PLCs?

No. EMCc is not a machine controller. Motion control, sequencing and safety systems stay on PLCs and safety-rated controllers. EMCc reads and commands them like any other device.

What happens if a site loses its connection?

It keeps running. In a Master/Slave topology the Master aggregates and commands, but every Slave keeps local control and carries on if the link drops.

How do I get support?

Email support@emc2tech.com. For a demo or a new project, write to info@emc2tech.com or use the contact form.

How do people access it?

From Safari, Chrome or Firefox on a desktop or tablet. Role-based access controls what each user sees, MQTT publishing and EMCcloud are built in, and software updates are delivered remotely.

See a real site, live

We'll connect to a working EMCc site over a secure VPN tunnel and show you Datum, Formulas, alarms and dashboards, edited live while the site keeps running.
